Людям необходимо понимать, на чём основана устойчивость популя-ций, сообществ и экосистем, чтобы соразмерять свою деятельность с законами природы. Назовём некоторые наиболее важные для сохранения устойчивости экологические закономерности: цикличность, отрицательная обратная связь, биологическое разнообразие видов.
Цикличность в экосистемах. Цикличность (греч. kyklos — «кругообо-рот»), т. е. многократное использование биогенных веществ, лежит в основе биологического круговорота, от которого зависит устойчивость экоси-стемы (биогеоценоза) (рис. 108).
Водород, кислород, углерод, азот, фосфор и другие биогенные элементы совершают в биосфере постоянные и многократные миграции между организмов и физической средой. Плоть живущих сейчас людей включает атомы, побывавшие в составе тел древних стегоцефалов, дино-завров, первоптиц и мамонтов.
Циклическое использование ограниченных по запасам веществ делает их практически неисчерпаемыми. На этом основана непрерывность жизни. Иначе она давно угасла бы на Земле, израсходовав все доступные ресурсы.
Отрицательные обратные связи в экосистемах. Отрицательная об-ратная связь заключается в том, что отклонения от нормального состояния системы вызывают в ней такие изменения, которые начинают противодействовать этим отклонениям. В итоге происходит регуляция, т. е. возврат системы к прежней норме.
На отрицательной обратной связи основано самоподдержание всех сложных биосистем.
Отрицательная обратная связь регулирует численность популяций в биогеоценозе и осуществляется через биоценотические, т. е. межвидо-вые, отношения. В основном это связи между хищником и жертвой, паразитом и хозяином. Рост численности жертв, создавая хорошую кормовую базу для хищников, обеспечивает последним успешное размножение и увеличение численности в следующем поколении. В геометрической прогрессии при этом возрастает и влияние хищников на популяции жертв, что приводит к резкому снижению численности последних. Поэтому виды, у которых много природных врагов, т. е. их «все едят», редко достигают численности, опасной для подрыва их собственных ресурсов. Точно так же снижение численности жертв, согласно принципу обратной связи, ведёт к снижению численности хищников. Такое сопряжённое колебание чис-ленности жертв и хищников хорошо видно на примере взаимодействия зайца и рыси (рис. 109).
У некоторых видов вспышки численности при массовом размножении происходят даже в природных сообществах. Обычно плотность их популяций сдерживается многочисленными потребителями, но после суровых зим или засушливого лета часть врагов погибает, что и приводит к быстрому увеличению численности особей вида-жертвы. Например, у бабочек сибирского шелкопряда в таёжных лесах не менее 60 видов потребителей. Особенно активно сдерживают рост их численности некоторые мелкие перепончатокры-лые — яйцееды, личинки которых развиваются в яйцах шелкопряда. Эти личинки чувствительны к сильным морозам и в массе погибают, яйца же шелкопряда выживают, и начинается резкий рост численности вида. До того, как восстановится численность регуляторов, гусеницы шелкопряда успевают оголить большие массивы хвойных пород, а затем вышедшие из куколок ба-бочки разлетаются в новые места, где снова попадают под действие большо-го комплекса паразитов и жит-

скими методами. Обычно хищни-
ки и паразиты более чувстви-
тельны к ядам, чем их жертвы.

гов, размножаются с новой си-
лой. Здесь человек нарушает ту
отрицательную обратную связь,
которая лежала в основе привычного взаимодействия видов. Разнообразие видов позволило жизни освоить все «уголки» биосферы, существовать на всех географических широтах, во всех типах климата, в глубинах океанов и толщах грунтов.
Биологический круговорот веществ требует участия видов с прямо противоположными функциями. Очевидно, что и на заре возникновения жизни существовало разнообразие первичных организмов, иначе биологи-ческий круговорот не смог бы возникнуть.
Разнообразие видов позволяет им формировать сообщества, занимать все экологические ниши и тем самым наиболее полно использовать ресурсы среды. В биогеоценозах, как мы видели, создаётся своего рода «разде-экосистему.

Его функции могут принять на себя сразу несколько видов. Но это возможно, если в экосистеме представлено большое видовое разнообразие.

Например, в такой важной функции, как разложение мёртвого органи-ческого вещества, одновременно участвуют многие группы организмов с большим видовым разнообразием: бактерии, грибы, простейшие, крут-лые и кольчатые черви, членистоногие. Дождевые черви в большинстве типов почв играют важнейшую роль в этих процессах.
Биологическое разнообразие видов — необходимое условие и для про-текания первичных и восстановительных сукцессий. Одна из причин торможения сукцессионного процесса на обширных нарушенных человеком пространствах — низкое разнообразие видов на прилегающих территори-ях, отсутствие семян нужных видов растений и сопровождающих их животных - опылителей, разлагателей и т. п. Без видового разнообразия не происходит смены сообществ в направлении к устойчивым экосистемам (биогеоценозам).
Устойчивость природы, таким образом, основана на вполне определённых законах сложения и динамики природных систем, не считаться с которыми люди не имеют права, так как это оборачивается против их собственного благополучия.
